Mazda Profits Up in October

Mazda North American Operations reported sales of 18,013 vehicles during October 2010. This is an increase of 19.5% over the same month last year. Year-to-date sales through October 2010 stand at 192,783, and are outpacing last year's sales at this time by 10.0%.

Here's the financial breakdown - Leading the increase for the month was Mazda's successful crossover SUVs. CX-7 reported sales of 2,483, up 46.8%, while CX-9 posted an increase of 56.7% with 2,497 vehicles. Year-to-date, CX-7 and CX-9 sales are up 47% and 43.2% respectively.

Mazda High Fuel Economy, Low Prices

Mazda is working on way to bring hybrid car fuel economy ratings to gasoline and diesel powered vehicles. This technology, according to the Japanese auto maker, should arrive as early as next year.

These new direct-injection gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, vehicle bodies, and chassis systems will be branded SkyActiv, Mazda Motor Corp. CEO Takashi Yamanouchi said last week. The term is derived from the Sky-G gasoline and Sky-D diesel engine family.
